Back in March, MP Nick Boles challenged the apprenticeship team at Grantham College to find 100 apprenticeship vacancies in 100 working days – well the challenge has come to an end and the target well and truly smashed.

The apprenticeship team have worked hard to find 124 apprenticeship vacancies during the challenge in an array of industries with local businesses such as Belvoir Fruit Farms, Colas, Fruehauf and South Kesteven District Council all taking on apprentices.

Mr Boles, MP for Grantham and Stamford, said: “During National Apprenticeship week I challenged Grantham College in my local constituency to create 100 apprenticeships in 100 days. Working with local employers, the college was able to create 124 apprenticeship opportunities within 100 days.

“This is an outstanding achievement and demonstrates what can be achieved at a local level as we continue in our goal to create three million new apprenticeships in England by 2020.”

Paul Ward, work-based learning manager, added: “The apprenticeship team at Grantham College have achieved amazing results during the 2015 Apprenticeship Challenge. Through proactive employer engagement we have smashed the target of 100 vacancies, securing apprenticeship opportunities in a range of sectors including, business and finance, construction, education, engineering and hairdressing.”

There are still apprenticeship jobs available but these are going fast. Applicants should apply at www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship

Throughout the campaign local businesses have shown real interest in apprenticeships. Many are recruiting apprentices for the first time and are taking advantage of the additional support available through the Employer Grant, worth £1,500. Others are recruiting apprentices for the second or third time, recognising the valuable contribution apprentices make to their businesses.
