OFFICERS policing West Grantham are encouraging people to find out more about their area by following them on Twitter and Facebook.

Pc Nick Fox, who recently took over as beat manager for the area, wants more residents to be aware of the information they can find on the social media networks.

He said: “Used in the right way it’s a fantastic tool.

“I think it could be a really effective way of communicating with the community.”

The sites will tell users what the neighbourhood policing team are doing and will also publicise appeals for information.

Crime prevention advice will be given out as well as details of up coming events.

Pc Fox said: “It’s something that Lincolnshire Police are doing as a force. In other areas they have had success with it and it’s something that we wanted to try here.

“It’s an extra tool in the fight against crime.

“People understandably get frustrated when criminals aren’t caught, we want people to hear the good news as well.”

The policing team think cases of missing people and other urgent appeals will be particularly helped by the sites.

Pc Fox said: “It’s so quick, we can get a crime report in the morning and get it out that morning. Criminals are getting better at using technology to their advantage. We need to use it as well in the fight against crime.”

Find the team on Facebook by searching for Grantham Town West NPT or on Twitter look for GTW_NPT.

The sites should not be used to report crimes. In an emergency call 999 or call 101 in non-urgent cases.
