Update: Arson no longer suspected as cause of Grantham scrap yard blaze

An investigation into the cause of a large fire at a Grantham scrap yard on Sunday, has determined that the cause was not arson.

The blaze at Traynors on Gorse Lane saw 120 cars destroyed, and was attended by fire crews from Grantham, Corby Glen and Newark. No injuries were reported.

Today a police spokesperson said: “Further investigation carried out by the fire service and police into this fire has found that it is now not thought that the fire was deliberately started.

Matthew Perrin, fire investigation officer at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, added: “The cause of the fire at Gorse Lane on Sunday has been classified as undetermined.”
