Fire and Rescue news.

The A1 northbound was closed around Long Bennington earlier today due to a catering van on fire.

Firefighters from Grantham and Newark were called to the vehicle described as ‘well alight’ at 9.54am. They used two breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the blaze.

The northbound carriageway was closed between the A1 junctions with the B1174 at Long Bennington and the B6326 at Fernwood, with congestion back to Great Gonerby. One lane was then reopened past the scene while the vehicle was in the layby.

All lanes are now open and the vehicle has been removed. Delays remain but traffic is beginning to clear.
