A man has been charged with sexual assault following a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation.

The 61-year-old man from Lowestoft was charged after he contacted police voluntarily following a media appeal and was interviewed by officers.

The charges relate to an incident that took place on a train travelling between Grantham and Newark on Thursday, December 11.

He has been released on police bail to appear at Grantham magistrates’ court on Monday, February 9.

Detective Constable Sarah Trotter said: “I would like to thank the local media for their assistance in publicising this appeal as well as various members of public who came forward with information, we had an excellent response.

“As legal proceedings are now active I would remind all the media of the requirement to remove the appeal and any related images from their websites and cancel any plans to run or re-run the appeal.”
