Updated: Operation to move 'trapped traffic' on A1 near Grantham ends over 'safety concerns'

By Grantham Reporter

Attempts to move traffic trapped on the A1 due to an overturned lorry carrying chemicals, have been forced to come to an end.

Highways England earlier said police were turning traffic on to the southbound carriageway from the northbound carriageway.

However, "safety concerns" have brought the operation to an end.

Police have confirmed that the lorry has not shed its load of acid on to the highway, but the A1 is likely to be closed in both directions for several more hours.
