Vandals deface Grantham bench dedicated to the RAF Regiment

Vandals have defaced a bench in the town centre dedicated to members of the RAF Regiment.

A plaque on the bench was found covered in felt tip pen on Monday.

Chris Kennedy, of Roll and Scroll, who made the bench, was notified of the vandalism by the local RAF Association and Royal British Legion. He said: “Luckily it was an easy fix. It was only felt-tip pen which I removed with a degreaser and while I was there I decided to brass the plate up with metal cleaner.

“It’s just disgusting on how little respect some people have got .”

The bench was paid for by South Kesteven District Council with a contribution from the current deputy mayor of Grantham Coun Dean Ward, who is a former member of the RAF Regiment.

A bench will be unveiled in St Peter’s Hill on Friday, September 20, to mark the 30th anniversary of the Royal Naval Association in Grantham.
