VIDEO: Christmas lights are switched on in Grantham

Grantham was lit up yesterday afternoon when the Christmas on the Green event ended with the switching on of the tree lights.

A large crowd gathered on St Peter’s Hill for the event. The rector of St Wulfram’s Church, Fr Stuart Cradduck, gave a blessing and carols were sung, led by a choir from KGGS.

The Mayor of Grantham, Coun Jacky Smith, and Chairman of the District Council Coun Ray Wootten addressed the large crowd in St Peter’s Hill before the switch-on by the mayor. A short firework display followed the switch-on.

During the day a market was held in the George Centre and the last day of the Christmas Tree Festival was held in St Wulfram’s. A market planned for Westgate had to be cancelled because of the blustery weather, but all other events were able to go ahead as scheduled.
