Villagers prepare for annual scarecrow competition

Villagers at Harlaxton are being urged to build a scarecrow to take part in what has become an annual competition.

The event was held last year for the first time with a modest entry but the village hall committee hope there will be a bigger response to this year’s contest which will be judged today (Friday).

The theme this time is ‘monarch’, to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday. Scarecrows must be displayed in the front garden of properties.

Last year’s winner, Gareth Bowles, said: “I put a lot of effort in last year with a full size wigwam, a cast cow and bales of hay and I have big plans for this year. Hopefully we will get a lot of entries.”
