Imagine how filthy the river through Grantham would be without the efforts made by volunteers to clear it of rubbish.

Hard-working volunteers for Grantham Rivercare have once again grabbed their rubber gloves, litter-pickers and bin liners to drag rubbish out of the River Witham through Wyndham Park.

Fifteen people turned out to help, starting at Bridge End Road and finishing at the white bridge in Wyndham Park.

Rivercare leader John Knowles said: “The group worked flat out for two hours. They collected no less than 16 sacks of small items, comprising mainly bottles and cans, three shopping trolleys, a traffic cone, a property sale board, a scooter and half a bed.”

New volunteers are always welcome to join in the regular clean-ups. The next one scheduled is on Saturday, October 24. The group will meet at the bridge in Bridge End Road at 10am. All are welcome, and equipment is provided.
