THE Journal report (December 2) about the ‘golden gag’ on Gary Walker (former chief executive of United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust) must make many of those who pay for such costly enquiries and tribunals wonder just how their money has been spent.
There has been no disclosure of any evidence (on either side) or of the amount of any compensation from the public purse, so, presumably, we must await a response to a ‘Freedom of Information request’ if it emerges. Exactly where the ‘Care Quality Commission’ comes into this is unclear, but it would be useful to know just how much quangos and lawyers cost ordinary taxpayers locally and nationally. Our 21st century bureaucrats are obviously ignorant of Lord Hewart’s famous statement from the King’s Bench many years ago, “ ... justice should not only be done, but should manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done.”
