Five pairs of tickets for Melton Piefest to be won!
PieFest: Britain’s favourite pie festival is being held in nearby Melton Mowbray and you could be there.
This national celebration of Britain’s favourite dish is taking place at the Livestock Market in Melton Mowbray on Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7. We have teamed up with the organisers to offer five lucky readers a pair of tickets each to the event.
Held in Melton Mowbray, dubbed the UK’s pie capital, PieFest will not just feature the town’s famous European protected pork pies but a range of pies; sweet and savoury, cold and, new this year, hot pies to eat on the go - with and without mash, vegetables and gravy.
Included amongst the pie makers will be past and current winners of the British Pie Awards. Pie aficionados can make their own judgement on the pies on offer and vote for their favourite pie to win a hamper, the pie maker winning a silver cup.
The pie theatre will feature talks and demonstrations, including a history of pies and favourite recipes.
PieFest will also have other treats to sample and buy complimenting pies such as cheese, cider, beer, chutneys and wine.
Organiser of PieFest, Matthew O’Callaghan said: “The pie is almost uniquely British and one of our most favourite foods. We eat £1bn of pies a year. They’ve evolved a long way from the ‘coffyns’ of the Middle Ages. Here the pie was a method of cooking meat and vegetables which was either eat hot or sealed with butter to store for later. Pies containing the entrails of deer, called umbles, were eaten by the poor which gave rise to the expression ‘to eat ‘umble pie’.
