Strong winds last night (Friday) have felled trees and torn down fences, while the forecast for continued winds today have kept Belton Park closed.

Gates to the parkland at Belton House have been locked and a sign put up reading: “Park closed today. High winds are forecast for today and trees could drop branches or be blown over.”

Just metres away from the park’s Lion Gates, an uprooted tree lies across a pavement. The large, mature tree was uprooted by the winds we have experienced in the Grantham area over recent days.

Winds are expected to ease overnight, and in its place will be low temperatures and a risk of ice and frost.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain and ice in the East Midlands.
