SAVE our forests! That’s the message sounding from the Grantham-based Woodland Trust, which is fighting the Government’s proposals to sell off 15 per cent of the country’s public woodland.

The organisation has launched an online ‘Save England’s Ancient Forests’ petition and is urging Journal readers to sign in a bid to force the coalition to U-turn. The campaign aims to protect our woodland heritage, and wants the Government to promise safeguards for ancient woodland, such as Ingoldsby Wood.

Readers are encouraged to sign the petition at www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/protect and to add their evidence about how their local woods are valued.
