Academy status will lead to King’s School’s downfall

WELL done to Daniel Fletcher, who wrote about the demise of the King’s Grammar School in his guest column.

My original letter printed some weeks ago, was the first I think to voice concerns about its change from grammar to academy.

I was appalled to think that this could happen and could not believe the rumours were true.

Look no further than Newark schools. The prestigious Lilley and Stone Girls High School and the Magnus Grammar, both lost their status and resulted in a change to sink schools, which no parent wanted to send their children to. Hence the procession of buses travelling up and down the A1 every day carrying Newark children to Grantham’s schools, parents desperate for their children to get a grammar school education.

Parents, staff and children at King’s have every reason to be worried.
