Absolute devastation is the only way to describe my feelings after pollution of the River Witham upstream of Grantham caused the loss of so many wild brown trout.
I am a member of Grantham Angling Association and am not so much upset at the loss of the fishing as the loss of a generation of wild brown trout that have made this beautiful river idyllic.
This is the second incident in five years that has effected this area. Unfortunately it probably means the loss of 1,000 fish in a stretch of river eight miles long and recovery may take five years. Guidance from the Environmant Agency is ongoing and co-operation from landowners and dedication from the fishing club will ensure the Upper Witham will be restored to its former glory.
