The disgracefully low turnout for the local elections is deplorable, but I do think that lack of publicity made its contribution.
“Candidates actively canvassing” (Journal comment column). The only thing noticeable about an election was the pointless TV party political broadcasts – local?
The first notification of any sort which came my way, was two names on my postal vote papers. Who were these two people?
One leaflet arrived eventually, the other came after I had posted my vote, a few days before its close.
A list of candidates less than a week before voting is not much in the way of encouragement.
Perhaps a little build-up in the Journal for a week or two might help. Look what publicity did for Newton last year.
