In response to concerns raised in my column regarding South Kesteven District Council’s planning process, a Grantham councillor wrote to the Journal last week and stated there is a process in place which can be used to request planning applications are considered by the development control committee.
Those raising concerns with me are already aware of that process and have used it. However, the existing process enables a senior planning officer to override requests from councillors for planning applications to come to the development control committee. This is not only against the wishes of councillors concerned and members of the public, but is also considered bad practice by the East Midlands Council, who state that councillors should retain control of the planning process in the planning authority because of our local knowledge. It is time this practice was changed.
