KGGS right to refuse academy ‘bribery’

Have your say

congratulations to KGGS Governors and the Headmaster Mr Burks on their courage in not accepting the bribe to become an academy.

Our grammar schools are jewels that need to be cherished and defended. They allow pupils from all walks of life to have the chance of a quality education.

Indeed, I was given that chance. The son of migrant working class parents, I attended a selective grammar school. My sons followed my lead by attending the King’s Grammar School.

For how much longer will parents put their children through the 11+ to attend an academy?

The King’s School will enjoy short-term gain for long-term pain. Will the ‘extra’ funding be spent on the pupils? I fear not.

This is indeed another very sad moment for the town of Grantham.
