I think the plan to turn off streetlights in the early hours in Bingham is a great idea.
Grantham should do the same, not only to save money but to cut carbon and light pollution.
Nearly half of all streetlight goes up into the sky, instead of towards the ground where it is needed.
Another solution would be to dim the lights. Next time it’s cloudy, see how much skyglow there is. Us backyard astronomers have to fight through this light pollution.
With a sensible approach to lighting, we can all enjoy the wonders of the night sky.
