There is no such thing as free car parking for all

Have your say

Why the clamour for SKDC to introduce parking charges in Bourne? Has anyone with this specific desire ever been to Bourne?

There is no such thing as free parking.

If you visit an out-of-town retail park that offers ‘free parking’ then you need to be aware that the owners of the site pass the cost of maintaining it on to each retailer, so you end up paying for it at this till.

If SKDC did reduce parking charges to nil, then the income lost is going to have to be picked up elsewhere, and probably through the council tax.

Is it fair for all the residents of the district to foot the bill for town centre parking (including those who do not visit Grantham, or do not drive) or should those actually using the car park do pay for it themselves?
