Following your article last week regarding Grantham’s Guildhall:
We talked to residents last autumn about budget priorities during these difficult times and asked what services are most important to them. For some the potential loss of the arts centre was less of a concern than the loss of other services.
Since then we have been working hard behind the scenes to make sure that we keep the arts centre because we realise how important it is to Grantham and how it is an essential element in the life and vitality of the town.
It not only fosters community involvement but also develops a sense of belonging for the many people who use the facility on a regular basis be they participants, volunteers or supporters.
To achieve this we have looked at other areas where we can add value and have diverted resources to cover the things that people have told us matter most to them including highway verge clearance and increased town centre street cleaning and litter picking.
We have also listened and heard what the local business community have had to say and have reduced car parking charges at our short stay car parks to 2008 levels.
We are committed to the future of our arts centre and to the growth and development of Grantham. We recognize that it is important, in these testing times, to invest in the town’s future and as Leader of SKDC I will do everything possible to achieve this.
The cultural and economic landscape of our beautiful district is very important to all of us who choose to live and work here. We have made a positive choice as a local authority to continue to provide excellent leisure facilities, and I would encourage all of you to take a look at the many great things they offer for all the family.
