Grantham Archers welcomed Newark Castle Archers to Walton Girls School for their chairman’s challenge on Sunday.

Back in February, Newark hosted Grantham Archers for an indoor competition when the home team won the chairman’s challenge, scoring 2976 over Grantham’s 2680.

On a blustery sunny afternoon, Grantham Archers exacted revenge, triumphing with 3610 to Newark’s 3399.

Shooting 4½ dozen arrows at a 30-metre target, Roger Fowler scored 429, Tony Dwyer 413, Adam Clark 395, Dave Handley 356, Darren Harwood 348, Avril Harwood 341, Steven Eales 310, Darren Hobbs 307, Berwyn Hughes 263, Ben Gliddon 244, and Angela 204.

A raffle was held with proceeds going to Macmillan in support of Newark chairman Michael Dutton who has been diagnosed with cancer. They managed to raise £80, with Michael’s family adding a further £20 to this worthy cause.

Steven Eales, chairman of Grantham Archers, said: “It’s wonderful what they were able to raise on the raffle and thanks to everyone to make the day a success.”
