ATHLETICS: 500 set to run Grantham AC’s annual half-marathon

Five hundreds runners are set to compete in the Newton’s Fraction Half-marathon on Sunday.

It is the 10th time Grantham Athletic Club has organised the event that starts and finishes at South Kesteven Sports Stadium.

The scenic half-marathon course takes runners to Barrowby and then along the canal towpath to Woolsthorpe, returning to the stadium via Denton and Casthorpe. The hills at Woolsthorpe (six miles) and Casthorpe (10 miles) will provide competitors with a stiff challenge and a reminder for those travelling to the event that Lincolnshire is not all flat.

The first runner is expected to complete the course in around 72 minutes with slower runners taking closer to three hours .

The popular event was voted as one of the top 50 races in the UK last year. Grantham AC hopes year’s race will be even more of a success and they expressed their thanks prior to the event to race sponsors Brooks, Asda, Brewster’s Brewery and Lincolnshire Runner.

Sponsor Asda Grantham’s community life champion Karen Guest, said: “After 10 successful half-marathons, we realise this is a brilliant event for everyone in Grantham and we are pleased to be able to support the organisers and be able to provide runners with water and various products; we know it’s going to be thirsty work.

“We want to wish organisers and runners the best of luck for the weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone there.”

Entries for the half-marathon are closed but runners can enter the accompanying 3km Little Apple fun run on the day.
