ATHLETICS: Grantham AC athletes excel in youth league

Nine under-13 and under-15 members of Grantham Athletic Club competed in the first round of the Youth Development League at Worcester on Saturday.

Competing in 25 events, the small team managed to set one new club record, 18 personal best performances, three season’s best performances and 10 entries into the UK rankings.


Under-13 girls, Helen Braybrook – 150m 3rd 22.1sec pb UKR, 1200m 1st 4min 4.7sec pb cr UKR, javelin 3rd pb UKR.

Under-13 boys, Jordan Seetul-Drew – 100m 3rd 13.7sec pb UKR, 200m 4th 28.7sec pb UKR, long jump 1st 4.23m; Rori Rodell – 1500m A 2nd 5min 10.1sec pb UKR, javelin B 2nd 10.7m sb; Ewan Rodell – 1500m B 1st 5min 28.3sec pb, shot putt 4th 4.3m pb; Oscar Wordsworth – long jump B 1st 4.12m pb, high jump 3rd 1.21m pb UKR, javelin 4th 17.38m pb; 4x100m relay – Grantham AC 3rd 60.3sec.

Under-15 girls, Amy Hunt – 100m 1st 12.5sec, 200m 1st 25.7sec, shot putt A 2nd 7.91m pb UKR; Morgan Holmes – hammer 3rd 18.76m pb, discus 2nd 17.45m sb, shot putt B 1st 7.03m pb.

Under-15 boys, Aaron Hunt – 300m 3rd 44.9sec pb, 800m 2nd 2min 18.3sec pb UKR, discus 2nd 9.86sec sb; William Tucker – 1500m 2nd 4min 39.4sec pb UKR, javelin 4th 19.4m pb.

Seven Grantham AC members competed in the Langtoft 3km and 10km runs on Sunday.

Aaron Hunt won the 3km race convincingly in 10min 50sec, with his sister Saskia coming in shortly after. The third GAC athlete was Charles.

In the 10km race, the first Grantham man home was Arthur Short who finished 19th in 39min 1sec, followed by Keith Measures 83rd 46:46, Chris Hunt 104th 48:26 and Phil Hall 163rd 55:09.
