A Grantham Athletic Club junior won two national sprint titles at the weekend.

Amy Hunt won both the 60m and 200m national titles in the under-15 women age group at the England Athletics National Indoor Championships, held at the EIS Centre in Sheffield on Saturday and Sunday – and, incredibly, still at the age of 13.

On Saturday, Amy tackled the 60m and went through the heat and semi-final before eventually dominating the final to win in a time of 7.77 seconds, just outside her personal best.

The following day saw her entered for the 200m event and again she had to progress through a heat and semi-final before reaching the final. Another controlled and demonstrative performance saw Amy control the race and pull away to victory in a new PB of 25.22 seconds.

Her coach, Ian Richards, acknowledged the maturity of the club’s star young athlete, as well as the application of her undoubted talent: “ She has a terrific temperament for one so young and she blends this with dedicated application to produce a winning style.

“She also benefits from the tremendous support given by her family, and this all adds up to a forceful team.”
