ATHLETICS: Grantham AC perform admirably at county cross country championships

Fifteen Grantham Athletic Club athletes competed at the Lincolnshire County Cross Country Championships at Biscathorpe on Sunday.

Grantham secured six automatic county selections for the forthcoming inter-counties fixture in Birmingham. They also secured three second place finishes – Helen Braybrook in the under 13 girls, Isobel Hobday in the under 15 girls and Aaron Hunt in the under 15 boys. Two fourth places were gained by Ewan Rodell, under 13 boys, and William Tucker in the under 15 boys.

The under 15 boys won the team race, with Aaron second and Will fourth, supported by George Hatton in an excellent return to form in fifth place.

Grantham’s under 17 girls’ team finished third, with Saskia Hunt 11th, Kim Newell 13th and Amy Newell 14th.

l Grantham AC’s George Hatton enjoyed a brilliant run at the Belton House 5km parkrun on Saturday, finishing in sixth place overall and only 10 seconds shy of his personal best, despite still being

an under-15 athlete.

Julie Stuart and Ian Worrall both had excellent runs and were rewarded with PBs, while first time parkrunners Trudy Hanson and Elli Rae Flavell both put in decent performances at the local event.
