ATHLETICS: Grantham AC’s Allen achieves podium finish at Stilton Stumble

It was a podium finish for Grantham Athletic Club’s Ben Allen at the weekend when he finished third senior man in the Stilton Stumble 10km in a time of 38min 35sec.

l The club had five athletes travel to Peterborough to compete in the Great Eastern Runs.

Aaron Hunt continued his blistering form with a third place in the 5km. His time of 18.31 also reduced his personal best by 21 seconds.

Saskia Hunt’s time of 23.05 earnt her a 12th place finish in the girls’ 5km event.

Meanwhile in the ‘big’ race of the day, the the club had three finishers in the 3,000 strong field for the half marathon.

Results: 402 Arthur Short 1.32.28, 1600 Keith Measures 1.53.53, 2531 Phil Hall 2.07.41.

l Tony Madge tackled the Inverness parkrun while three club members ran a little closer to home at Newark.

Results: Inverness – 20 Tony Madge 21.17; Newark – 40 Janice Anderson 24.33, 44 John Ellerby 24.58, 51 John Bainbridge 25.39.

Two GAC athletes started their cross country season with some fine performances at the first round of the North Midlands Cross Country League on Saturday.

Racing at Markeaton Park in Derby, William Tucker finished 11th out of 89 in the under-15 boys. Dean Houlton, competing in the senior/vet men’s category, finished 140th in a field of 29.

Six GAC athletes will be heading to Sheffield on Saturday to compete in the Northern XC Relay Championships.
