The 5km parkrun phenomena has certainly taken the UK by storm and it is gradually spreading around the world.

Tony Madge is Grantham Athletic Club’s first international parkrunner and he could not have picked an event much further from home.

On Saturday he competed in the Riverway event in Thuringowa, Queensland, Australia, and finished eighth.

On a hot and sticky summer morning, six other club members ran in three events closer to home.

Results: Riverway AU – 8 Tony Madge 21min 45sec; Newark – 3 Naomi Collier 19:33, 27 Keith Measures 23:55; Melton – 46 Janice Anderson 25:40, 55 John Ellerby 27:17; Lincoln – 62 Richard Hall 23:36, 222 Dona Hall 35:04.
