ATHLETICS: Grantham AC’s Sophie records marathon PB in London

Grantham Athletic Club’s Sophie Stanley finally arrived on the London Marathon start line without the string of injuries that had dogged her previous attempts.

In almost perfect running conditions, Sophie completed the 26.2 miles in 3hr 33min 22sec – a new personal best by more than 11 minutes.

Matt Emery also travelled to London to compete in his debut marathon, finishing in a time of 2.43.54, a time that many seasoned club runners could only dream of. Scott Jones, competing for Grantham AC as his second claim club, also PB’d with a superb run of 3.22.14.

GAC also had 17 parkrunners out competing at seven different events.

Dona and Richard Hall travelled to the spiritual home of parkrunning – Bushy park, where it all started. Dona was rewarded with a new PB, taking 27 seconds off her previous best with a time of 28.58. Janice Anderson is getting back to impressive form with a national class performance at Hastings with an age graded result of 83.7 per cent.

Seamus Sheard finished second at Belton Park, just shy of his PB, followed closely by Ethan Richards-Cole in third.

The club also had some superb performances at the Grantham Cup with a podium finish for Stephen Hobday in the multi-terrain 10km.
