Athletes from all over the county entered trials to see who would represent Lincolnshire at the Inter County Sportshall Competition.

Those from Grantham Athletic Club who were successful in gaining a place in the team were: U11 Girls – Madalain Oates; U11 Boys – Imam Abdulraham and Joseph Harris; U13 Girls – Rachel Justice and Mary Justice; U13 Boys – Ronnie Davey and Harry Denton.

Although this was the first time the athletes had competed in a big competition against teams from Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, they did not seem to be too worried and put in some good performances, losing by only a few points.

Results: U11 Girls – Madalain Oates – chest push with 1kg ball 6.25 metres 3rd place, hurdles 2nd place, STJ 10th 5.08 metres; U11 Boys – Imam Abdulraham – long Jump 1st 2.18 metres, hurdles 2nd place; Joseph Harris – target throw 3rd place, medley relay 3rd place; U13 Girls – Mary Justice - speed bounce 3rd place, 2 lap 4th place; Rachel Justice – STJ 8th place, 4 lap 7th place; U13 Boys – Harry Denton – 6 lap 2nd place, STJ 3rd place.

The final team result in all categories was fourth place but, just as imporant, the Grantham AC athletes gained experience of what it was like to compete.
