ATHLETICS: Grantham club members contest Valentine’s Day events

Two Grantham AC athletes headed out for 5km Parkruns on Valentine’s Day.

Dean Houlton finished fifth at Lincoln in 18min 27sec and will receive his free Parkrun T-shirt for clocking up 50 events. Meanwhile, Keith Measures finished 21st at Newark in 24:01.

Adam Madge took part in the Valentine’s 30km organised by Stamford Striders on Sunday.

He finished the tough, undulating course in 26th position in a time of 1:58:47, which puts him on for a decent time in the Manchester Marathon in two months’ time.

l Grantham Running Club fielded 15 athletes in the 22nd annual Stamford 30 race.

Fastest club member this year was GB triathlete Abi Schofield who recorded a new personal best time of 2:13:46 for 91st out of 750 runners. She was closely followed by clubmate Iain Brown who was 20th in 2:17:41, the club’s first male finisher.

Grantham RC fielded runners in Parkruns in Lincoln, Newark, Mansfield and Pontypridd at the weekend.

At the Lincoln event, Warren Stark finished in 22:27, crossing the line as the 52nd finisher.

Meanwhile at Newark, in-form William Parkin posted a spectacular time, crossing the line in 18:24 to finish second. In Mansfield, Gwenda Williams managed a respectable 27:58, romping home to a 15th place female finish.

Andrew Pask, who has been dogged by injury, managed a sterling effort, crossing the line in 11th place in a time of 20:08 in Wales. More than 140 ran.
