ATHLETICS: Grantham RC members run far and wide
Members of Grantham Running Club were in action in various parts of the country last week.
Nick Payne took part in the infamous Rat Race ultra-marathon, The Wall.
The Wall course runs alongside Hadrian’s Wall in Scotland and competitors attempt to complete the 69 miles in under 24 hours. Nick complete the staggering distance in just 14hr 34min 52sec.
l Chris Limmer took part in the gruelling Salomon Trail Marathon in Wales on Saturday.
The route ran through the stunning trails and tracks of the Coed y Brenin forest in the Snowdonia National Park. The unique event is already established as one of Wales’ finest trail marathons, taking in fully marked trail single track, forest roads and paths in some of the most stunning forestry and heathland in the UK.
Chris completed the course in 3:55:15 for 43rd place.
l Two GRC members competed in the Stathern 10km, with Tom Fowler posting a season’s best 38:58 to cross the finish line in 13th, a reflection of the hard work he has been putting in over the past few weeks. Clubmate Chris Armstrong finished five places behind in 44:15.
l Chris Armstrong also ran the rural Prestwold 10km and completed the distance in 40:19, with clubmate Andrew Pask not far behind in 40:41.
l Although the Stathern 10km failed to attract a large field this year, it did not prevent two Grantham Athletic Club runners from achieving good performances. Arthur Short crossed the line in sixth place in a time of 38:01 and Phil Hall finished 47th in 55:25.
l There was a good turnout of GAC athletes at the Summer Solstice 10km at Long Bennington on Friday evening.
Adam Madge was the club’s first athlete home in just under 37 minutes. New member Ben Allen has turned his attention to road racing and clocked a sub-38 minute personal best, and has the potential to run much quicker.
Results: 22 Adam Madge 36:54, 27 Ben Allen 37:22, 85 Paul Davidson 41:30, 136 Geoff Collier 43:25, 206 Keith Measures 46:31, 259 John Ellerby 48:35, 304 Janice Anderson 49:56, 325 Julie Stewart 50:28.
GAC had three athletes competing at 5km parkruns the following day. Dona Hall was rewarded with a new PB at the Lincoln event, knocking a massive 28 seconds off her previous best.
Results: Lincoln – 58 Richard Hall 23:26, 205 Dona Hall 34:36; Newark – 31 Keith Measures 23:55.
