Nine members of Grantham Running Club gave a good account of themselves in the Turkey Trot Half Marathon.

Although the Nottinghamshire-based hilly half marathon is the final big race of the year, attracting well over a 1,000 entrants, there wasn’t an end of season feel to the event as all began the build-up to their spring marathons in 2016.

First home for GRC was Barcelona-bound Gavin Meadows, knocking an unbelievable 12 minutes off his time for this race 12 months previously and setting another new personal best in the process. He was closely followed by Andrew Pask, also in 1hr 31min, who has begun his preparations for the Rotterdam Marathon.

Next home was Catherine Payne in 1:37 who finished third lady in her age category, with Ultra runner Nick Payne a tantalising nine seconds outside his all-time PB in 1:41. Robert McArdle followed in a season’s best of 1:42, with Lucy Roberts narrowly missing her 2014 mark by less than a minute in two hours dead.

Gwenda Williams recorded her second fastest half marathon, despite the hills and rain in, 2:10. Completing the line-up were Brendon and Yvonne Buckley, crossing the line together in 2:27, almost three-and-a-half minutes inside their 2014 time on the same course.

l GRC runners raced to a second and third position at this week’s wet and windy Belton House Parkrun on Saturday.

Runners-up Will Parkin with an excellent time of 18:01 was closely followed by Matthew Kingston-Lee with 18:08 in third, and Gavin Meadows (20:11) in seventh place.

Further afield, Chris Limmer continued his impressive run of results, this time with fourth at the Lincoln event in a time of 18:01.

Others: Belton House – 29 Nicholas Day 25:14, 58 Martin Carter 29:05, 63 Nik Jones 29:15, 73 Marc Tremain 30:36, 82 Anthony Smith; Ballarat – 11 John Blair 23:19.
