ATHLETICS: Grantham RC’s Payne posts season’s best 10




Grantham Running Club’s Catherine Payne recorded a 10km season’s best of 43min 21sec at the West Pinchbeck event hosted by Spalding Tri Club, with team-mate Robert McArdle finishing in 49:06

Australian member John Blair took part in the Rutland Water Half-marathon, finishing in a time of 1:55:05 for 64th overall and third in his age category, despite taking a tumble and doing a forward roll at the nine mile marker.

Grantham RC fielded five runners in the Robin Hood Half-marathon on Sunday.

Results: Stuart Sinclair 1:25:00 (pb), Andrew Spencer 1:34:46, Nev Chamberlain 1:44:46 (pb), Andrew MacAllister 1:45:02 (pb), Neil Emerson 1:45:59 (pb), Lorna Fox 1:49:36 (pb).

GRC members again ran at various parkruns throughout the world.

Warren Stark became the first GRC runner to complete a parkrun in the USA, finishing 10th in 22:40 at Crissy Field, San Francisco.

Chris Limmer continued his run at Melton Mowbray by winning in 17:39. Two other members recorded personals, both at Newark – Rob Howbrook came in fourth in 19:42 and Mark Wilson eighth in 20:37.

Nick Payne, running with his daughter, finished in 122nd in a time of 35:28, well outside his pb. Other members running were Lizzie Potter at Coventry, 350th in 29:13, Gwenda Williams at Mansfield (57th 26:18), and Marc Tremain, also running with his daughter, at Peterborough (183rd 28:05).

Gordon Geach was the run director at Newark.
