This year’s Liverpool Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon attracted a huge field of 10,000 runners, including Grantham Running Club’s Ruth Dunstan.

Over a tough course and on a very sunny day, Ruth was running brilliantly until the 20-mile point when she hit the dreaded wall.

She managed to hang on and post a great time of 4hr 39min 25sec, despite it being outside her best.

Ruth said: “Preparation for this was far from ideal so it was never really about time. The last 10km was tough, really tough, so I needed to dig in to get this one finished. I learned a lot about respecting the marathon.

“The race was incredible and had the best 500m to finish that I’ve ever experienced.”
