Three Grantham Running Club members made the early morning journey from a chilly Grantham to take part in Scunthorpe’s North Lincs Half Marathon on Sunday.

With a strong field of nearly 1,700 runners, things soon heated up as both the temperature and pace went up on the pancake-flat course. In near perfect conditions, the male and female course records were broken and the three club members all posted excellent times.

Rob Howbrook was the first GRC runner home in 112th place with an astonishing personal best time of 1hr 26min 53sec. Chris Armstrong was next, finding some good form with 1:29:32.

Rick Dobbs, a graduate of the spring 2015 beginners’ course, continues to improve and posed an impressive PB time of 1:50:26.

Rick said: “Sub 1:50 is now firmly in my grasp. I’m feeling confident of finally breaking it at my next half marathon.”

l GRC’s Gav Meadows made the trip to Draycote Water in Warwickshire on Sunday to compete in the Draycote Water Half Marathon.

This was the first half marathon held at the venue which has hosted several shorter races in the past. The course comprised of 2.75 laps (13.1 miles) around the large, scenic body of water and had some steady climbs in places, making it a moderately challenging race.

Only a day after recording a new PB at Saturday’s Belton House Parkrun, Gav set another of 1:29:45 to finish 16th in a field of 180.

He said: “ knew going into this race that I stood a chance of breaking the 1:30 barrier and setting a new PB. However, I also knew that it was going to be a very close run thing and was proved right.

“There were a few anxious glances at the watch as I approached the finish line but I made it with just 15 seconds to spare.”
