ATHLETICS: Parkrun ‘personals’ for Grantham AC father and son


A father and son from Grantham Athletic Club set personal bests at Peterborough Parkrun on Saturday.

It was young Sam Bainbridge’s debut parkrun and he was chased around the 5km course by his father John who went on to reduce his PB.

Sam finished 65th in 22min 36sec and John was 12 places behind in 23:14.

Dean Houlton ran the Lincoln Parkrun and finished a creditable fifth in 18:25, whilst clubmate Keith Measures came in 38th in the Newark event in 23:50.

l Two Grantham AC lady athletes used Sunday’s Folksworth 15-mile race, near Peterborough, as part of their build-up for the London Marathon in April.

Both put in encouraging performances in bitterly cold conditions, on an extremely challenging course that included six inclines.

Julie Stewart recorded 2:08:31 to finish 257th, and Trudy Hanson was 350th in 2:24:03.

Also competing amongst the 500 entrants were eight Grantham Running Club athletes.

Results: 78 Iain Brown 1:45:53, 93 Mark Wilson 1:48:44, 115 Robert McArdle 1:52:46, 178 Gordon Geach 1:59:15, 287 Marc Tremain 2:13:30, 290 Ruth Dunston 2:14:17, 336 Nikki Carr 2:21:15, 373 Wendy Tremain 2:27:26.

There were two representatives from Ropsley Road Runners at Folksworth too.

Tony Johnson finished in 1:44:45 and Steven Thacker recorded 2:02:57.
