ATHLETICS: Wragby’s Kieran tops Lincs rankings

Wragby father and son Jim and Kieran Gillespie took part in the Biggleswade throws festival on Thursday.

The event began well for Kieran who threw a personal best 27.48m in the javelin, which took him to the top of the county rankings in the under-17 men’s age group. He then threw 7.89m in the shot put.

Kieran’s father Jim said: “He’s absolutely thrilled to be number one in the javelin, as well as the sprint hurdles, and is looking forward to his next competition.”

Kieran will be in action again when he competes in a penathlon at Leicester on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Jim was successful in both his events at Biggleswade, winning the discus with a throw of 27.68m and the shot in 8.25m.

Jim’s next event is a shot competition at Loughborough next Wednesday.
