ATHLETICS: Club runners improve despite poor conditions

Have your say

TWELVE members of Grantham Athletic Club took part in the popular Sleaford half marathon which attracted a record entry of more than 600 at Cranwell on Sunday.

The previous day’s heavy rain turned the revised route into more of a cross country race, but that didn’t prevent the Grantham AC runners from posting some pretty respectable times.

Performance of the day went to Sophie Stanley whose London Marathon training paid off and saw her improve her personal best by 18min 46 sec. John Bainbridge took 7:16 off his personal best and season’s bests were recorded by Mark Broomhead, also in training for London, Karl Hunt, Keith Measures and Beckie Shallard.

Putting the icing on the cake for Grantham AC, Catherine Payne took the 1st Vet40 trophy and with Helen Brown and Sophie Hunt won the first ladies’ team prize.

Results: 36 Arthur Short 1:24:45, 143 Robert McArdle 1:37:36, 147 Catherine Payne 1:38:27, 150 Mark Broomhead 1:38:42, 151 Helen Brown 1:38:46, 202 John Bainbridge 1:43:21, 257 Phil Hall 1:47:31, 262 Sophie Hunt 1:47:51, 287 Karl Hunt 1:49:38, 290 Sophie Stanley 1:49:46, 309 Keith Measures 1:51:04, 387 Beckie Shallard 1:57:16.
