ATHLETICS: Grantham’s Amy sets 60m championship record at Sheffield

Grantham’s Amy Hunt put in an outstanding performance at the England Under-17 Indoor Championships at Sheffield over the weekend.

Amy, a former member of Grantham Athletic Club who now trains at Charnwood AC, competed in the 60m in which she put in a stunning run in the semi-final, equalling the championship best performance of 7.50sec, only to better it in the final in which she was a clear winner, setting a championship best performance of 7.43sec.

On the all time UK list, Amy is ranked second as a 14-year-old behind Katherine Merry.

As a result of her outstanding performance, she has been selected to represent the England Under-18 team to compete in the Welsh International at Cardiff on Saturday.

Competing in the Under-17 Men’s 400m, Lewis Davey gained his first national medal by placing third in a personal best time of 50min 17sec, which placed him third in the national rankings.

Lewis, who now represents Peterborough AC, also competes in Combined Events and is currently second on the national list in Indoor Heptathlon.

His next competition will be in the National Indoor Combined Events Championships next weekend.
