ORGANISERS of the Newton’s Fraction Grantham Half-marathon are hoping that the event this Sunday could see its biggest ever field.

Hundreds of runners have already signed up for the half-marathon at te South Kesteven Sports tadium. The event is organised by Grantham Athletic Club and to date 420 entries have been received for this year’s race.

Starting and finishing at the Stadium, the race heads out of Grantham along Grantham Canal to Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir, before returning to the stadium via Denton, Casthorpe Hill and Barrowby for a grandstand finish. New for 2011 is the introduction of hi-tech chip timing for all athletes.

The accompanying Little Apple 3km Fun Run is open to 200 runners and walkers. The route runs around the large sports complex grounds on Trent Road. Entry on the day is possible before 10am.

Last year the participants raised more than £800 in sponsorship for two important local charities – the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and St John’s Ambulance.

There is plenty of on-site parking, refreshments, prizes for the winners of the Newton’s Fraction and medals for all runners who complete the Fun Run. There will be stalls and Gravity FM will be in attendance.
