Grantham Running Club’s Matthew Kingston-Lee set a new club record, and bettered his old personal best by nearly a half a minute, at the Notts AC Five-mile Road Race on Victoria Embankment in Nottingham last Wednesday.

Making a strong start, Matthew found himself in around 17th position halfway around the first lap, tactically opting to use the shelter of a group of runners from the headwind.

He pushed on at the start of the second lap to pass six runners by the end of the race and finish in 27min 53sec for 11th place from 190 finishers, bettering his previous PB, set two years ago, by 26 seconds.

Also competing for Grantham RC were Andrew Spencer, who ran well to finish 71st in 35.29, and new club member Nicholas Day who, taking part in only his second road race, performed admirably to finish 157th in 46.03.

l Grantham RC’s Abi Schofield was the first lady to finish at Peterborough Parkrun on Saturday 26th July.

Clocking a new parkrun personal best of 20.01 and setting the fastest ever Peterborough Parkrun time by a GRC lady, it was the first time Abi had competed in the the free-to-enter 5km Peterborough event at Ferry Meadows Country Park.

And the club’s Sarah High was the first lady to finish at Newark Parkrun the same day, recording 24.36.

There was a top 10 placing for Stuart Sinclair, who ran 20.52, and Ruth Dunstan was third lady to finish in a new course PB of 25.52. Sixth lady Helen Brown also claimed a new course PB in 26.45.
