Belvoir Tri Club members enjoyed a busy weekend, searching for glory at various events across the locality.

Clumber Park was the venue for the biggest race of the weekend – the British Triathlon National Championships, promoted by One Step Beyond.

Kevin Gench and Steve Squires competed in the Standard distance event of 10km run, 40km bike and 5km run, whilst clubmate Sara Bedford took part in the Sprint distance event of 5km run, 20km bike and 5km run.

Staged in the picturesque National Trust country park, the races offered age group qualification places in both the Sprint and Standard distance for the ITU World and ETU European Championships. Due to its attractive location and challenging routes, the event this year attracted around 1,000 entries from all over the UK.

With weather conditions similar to that of two weeks ago at the Dambuster Duathlon, both Kevin and Steve were looking to improve on their times, despite gusting winds impeding riders on the bike stage of both distances.

In the Standard race, Kevin Gench finished 188th overall, recording a time of 2hr 25min 19sec, whilst Steve Squires was 331st in 2:47:57.

In the Sprint distance, Sara Bedford came in 403rd, recording an overall time of 1:33:53.

Elsewhere, Bohdan Dawyd took part in the inaugural Nottingham University Varsity Triathon, finishing in a creditable 22nd place overall, 12th in his age group, and with a time of 1:02:37.

Meanwhile, Karl Hunt, Paul Letchworth and Brian Martin flew the flag at the Grantham-based Belvoir Classic Sportive, finishing with one gold and two silver medals in the 58km and 100km events. Karl posted the fastest time overall on the 58km route.

Rounding off the weekend, Adam Madge and Adam Jackson ran the Lincoln 10km road race, coming home 35th and 54th respectively with finishing times of 35:28 and 36:19.

Club member Abi Schofield, competing for Nene Valley Harriers, finished fifth lady at Ashby 20-mile road running race, finishing in 2:23:15 for an 11-minute personal best.

l Belvoir Tri Club embarks on its support this Sunday of the Go-Tri initiative from Triathlon England with their Sprint Aquathon (200m swim, 3km run) at Melton Leisure Pool, starting at 12 noon.
