Belvoir Tri Club showed their versatility this week as members raced at Sprint and Ironman distances, with a half-marathon thrown into the mix too.

First off was Chris Masters at the Brownlee Triathlon at Harewood House in Yorkshire, taking on the Sprint distance event, his first of the weekend. Chris finished in 85th place overall out of 730 with a time of 1hr 40min 27sec, which gave him 17th place in his age group of eighty 30-34 year olds.

Following up his Saturday race, Chris was joined by Mick Oliver, Neil Dowsett, Dave Kay and Patrick Cutmore at East Leake on Sunday, which is fast becoming an end of season fixture for the club.

Chris had clearly used all of his good luck up in Yorkshire as mechanical failure and cramp conspired against him, but he still managed a strong age group finish, coming in 19th place with a time of 1:11:08. Competition in the 30-39 age group was strong though and saw Dave Kay coming in just two places higher in 17th place, nearly 90sec faster.

There was a lot of talk of a young versus old competition between local deputy head Mick Oliver and 21 year old 2013 Age Group European champion Patrick Cutmore. Having had time off for his RAF training, Patrick was just returning to the sport whereas Mick is in the form of his life.

Patrick dug deep and raised his game and took more than two minutes out of Mick, most of that coming on the run element, with the pair finishing in third and fourth place in their respective age groups, in 1:01:17 and 1:03:31 respectively.

Also racing was Tri3 Sleaford member and BTC second claim member Neil Dowsett, recently back from representing Great Britain in the Age Group World Championships in Chicago, coming home one place behind Mick in 1:04:07.

Neal Burnham, Dawn Padovano and Kevin Gench took part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon at Nottingham, finishing in 1:46:07, 1:51:59 and 1:38:57 respectively.

Finally, the long race of the weekend saw Bingham Tri Club member and BTC second claim member Lara Thornhill travel to Mallorca for the Ironman. Lara finished the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run in 13:21:02, coming home 27th in her age group and eighth GBR female
