Fifty members from Belvoir Triathlon Club participated in the Grantham Triathlon on Sunday.
Based around The Meres, the event marks the club’s annual championship.
The Grantham Sprint Triathlon is a fast, flat course, ideal for novices and experienced racers alike. The race distances were 400m swim, 18km cycle and a 5km run.
Belvoir Tri’s Patrick Cutmore was the overall winner and crowned club champion, crossing the finish line in 54min 28sec.
Following his victory, Patrick said: “Taking the overall win was the cherry on the top as my main thoughts were on the Belvoir club championship trophy. With a last minute bike change (special mention to Chris Pugh for lending me his road bike), I was sure the top contenders would take the win.
“After crossing the finish line, it was all about the waiting game until all the results came in.”
Runner-up in the club championship was Stefan Lawrence, with Kyle Campbell taking third place.
Claire Armstrong secured second female overall and was first female in the club championship, finishing in a terrific time of 1:01:19, ahead of clubmates Sophie Hunt and Catherine Davies.
It was an inaugural appearance into the world of triathlon for several Belvoir Tri. First-timer Alan Heathershaw commented on his race: “This year I have run a half marathon for the first time, I’ve swam an aquathon and biked and ran a duathlon, but your first triathlon takes you completely by surprise. It was hard but I would do it again. The high is worth the pain.”
