BADMINTON: Grantham men’s first team lose title-decider


Grantham Badminton Club men’s first team played a title-deciding final match away at Cross O’Cliff.

Despite three rubbers ending in close third end deciding games, the match ended with Grantham defeated 7-2.

Nick Gill with Tim Hought won a rubber as did Ben Johnson with Chung Chan, but Andrew Watson playing with Martin Peat were unable to add to the Grantham tally.

l The men’s third team travelled to Southwell for their final match of the season in Division Three of the Newark League.

They beat Woodborough by six rubbers to three to clinch possible promotion next season. Ben Attewell with Martin Chambers won all their rubbers, Rob Scarborough with Declan Hill won two, and Ryan Curtis with Will Saddler bravely won one, despite Ryan feeling under the weather.

l Grantham’s mixed third team played Bottesford at home in Division One of the Melton League.

Holly Sparks with Andrew Watson had an awesome night, winning all their rubbers, as did Carl Jennings with Katja Perry, with Rob Scarborough and Sandra Jennings adding one more to make the final score 7-3 in Grantham’s favour.

l The club’s mixed first team also played at home in Division One of the Newark League.

The clash with Cross O’Cliff was marred by a match-ending injury for Katrina Bedford in the middle of a game, with Grantham narrowly losing 5-4.

Ben Johnson and Kerry Durham won two rubbers, as did Jaz Gilbert with Nick Gill. Tim Hought with Zoe Foote also played.
