Grantham Badminton Club’s mixed first team played away at Cross O’Cliff in Division One of the Newark League.

They were well beaten by eight rubbers to one, with Nick Gill and Jaz Gilbert winning one of their three.

The team also comprised Tim Hought, Kerry Durham and Chung, with Zoe Foote picking up some valuable experience at the highest level while standing in for an in-plaster Susie Dilloway.

Grantham men’s third team took on Devon in Division Three in a clash of two previously unbeaten teams.

Despite playing at home, Grantham could not exceed Devon’s five rubbers scored on the night, although two were decided in the third end before going Devon’s way.

Top scorers for Grantham were on-fire pairing Chris Graves with Jon Ashley who won three rubbers. Dave Frobisher with Ben Attewell won a rubber in the third end but narrowly missed out on another match-winner, as did Rob Scarborough with Daniel Watson who could not convert a first game success, losing the next 23-21 and a third to concede the rubber.

Grantham men’s first team hammered a two pair Lincoln Albion 9-0 at home.

Captain Nick Gill played with Tim Hought, Jan Bailey with Ben Johnson, and Chung Chan with Jack Railton.
