BADMINTON: Grantham teams win well

Grantham Badminton Club teams recorded two good wins over Cross O’Cliff.

Grantham men 2nd won by 6-3 in Division Two of the Lincolnshire League, with each pair winning two rubbers against their second string opposition. Martin Chambers played with Dave Frobisher, Andrew Watson with Martin Peat, and Adrian Ackroyd with Jon Ashley.

The team bid Andrew Watson farewell as he departed for RAF training at Halton, and thanked him for his enthusiastic participation in successful Grantham matchplay over the last few years.

Grantham’s mixed first team also beat Cross O’ Cliff 2nd in Division One, this time by five rubbers to four. Jaz Gilbert with Nick Gill won all theirs, Kerry Durham with Jan Bailey won two, and Jon Ashley played with Zoe Foote.

In Melton League Division One, Grantham’s men narrowly lost 5-4 on Friday at home against Belvoir, with many tight games.

Dean Patel with Declan Hill won two rubbers, and Chris Graves with Mike Poyser and Dave Chambers with Ian Witham each won one rubber from three. The final rubber of Dean and Declan was very close with one game lost 22-20 and the other 21-19, which swung the result in the favour of Belvoir.
