BOWLS: Grantham teacher Caress selected for England at Euros

Talented bowls player Ashley Caress has been selected to represent England at the 2015 European Championships in Israel this year.

Ashley, who is a PE Teacher at Grantham Additional Needs Fellowship, received the call from Bowls England following a string of impressive performances at last year’s British Series in Ireland and at the National Championships at Royal Leamington Spa.

The championships, a bi-annual event, will be played at the Ra’anana and Ramat Gan Bowling Clubs, located close to central Tel-Aviv.

This will be the highlight of Ashley’s career so far – and one he is extremely excited about.

Twenty-three-year-old Ashley said: “Working with children with special needs is very rewarding and I want to show the pupils that they can achieve anything if they really work at it. I can’t wait to get out there and test my ability against top players from across Europe.

“I’m confident in my ability and the ability of my teammates, if we can adjust to the surface out there I’m sure we have a great chance of retaining the team trophy.”

Ashley is part of a 24-man team who will play Scotland, Ireland and Wales on home soil in Oxford next month.
